RECYCLED OIL DRUM PEACOCK

This stunning piece of decorative art shows a detailed Peacock displaying his feathers. It is hand cut and hammered from recycled oil drums in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. These pieces are representative of the spirituality of Haitian culture. Due to the handmade nature of the product the piece purchased may vary slightly from the one pictured.

Developed by poor artists looking for inexpensive raw materials to work with. Haitian artists became known world wide for their oil drum art. For years Haiti provided cheap, reliable labor for many industrialized nations. Now with political unrest, few companies operate manufacturing operations in Haiti so oil drums no longer are readily available at the ports. But the skill of the artisans make it worth importing the drums and what was once free material is now an added cost of maintaining a livelihood for the artisans.
