A very special silk called Eri Organic is used to create this handsome scarf. This cruelty-free silk is the most eco-friendly of silks. Unlike conventional silks, it does not involve a boiling process which kills any silk worms remaining in the fibers. This scarf was hand woven on ancient bamboo looms using un-dyed & natural vegetable dyed yarns.
This finely crafted, hand-woven silk scarf is from an artisan cooperative in Assam which employs indigenous Bodo women weavers. This silk is known as ahimsa or peace silk. Silkworm cocoons are collected only after the moths have emerged, unlike in the production of most commercial silks. This results in a greater degree of fiber purity, emphasizing the natural luster of the silk. Silk cloth is woven on zidagar frame looms. These looms are crafted from bamboo and other locally available materials. The artisan carefully strings threads vertically upon the loom. She then weaves horizontal interlacing threads in decorative patterns.
