This enterprise focuses on women from low-income households and slum communities and offers skill-building and employment opportunities. This artisan group began over forty years ago as a small scale income generating project aimed at training low-income and unskilled women to stitch sari petticoats. Many women in slum communities had few income opportunities and locally marketable skills. Over the years the artisans have honed their skills and created a small sustained business effort. Most of them also work as domestic help. As a part of this enterprise, the women enjoy an opportunity to be creative and also gain economically. Some artisans have used this additional resource to help send their children to school.
